The Florida Peace and Justice Center (The Center) is dedicated to improved communications that solve problems and resolve disputes in effective and peaceful ways in the special education community. In special education, IDEA 2004 emphasizes mediation as a first step to cooperation.School districts must now insure that acrimonious relations do not interfere with the delivery of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). The Center specializes in training students, parents, school-level staff, district-level staff, and community members in conflict resolution.The Center also trains novice and expert mediators to improve skills and outcomes.
The Center also provides a mediation administrative service thru its condo association branch.
The Center works to promote peaceful schools and respectful cultures in all environments. Dynamic training is designed and delivered to diverse audiences. The Center offers unique professional development opportunities, and related services, in the K-20 educational system. Other related services may include group facilitation and problem-solving, continuing education coursework, and focus group activity. The Center adopts a multi-disciplinary approach and includes a staff of highly qualified and experienced doctoral level educators, attorneys, accountants, and counselors.
The Florida Justice and Peace Center is a member of the IDEA Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution in Education (CADRE) and the
FLORIDA JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTER HAS BEEN A TRAINER FOR THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION MEDIATOR UPDATE TRAINING.
